King Sargon II

King Sargon was one of the great kings of in Assyria! King Sarogn II, rule between721-705 BC. He was known for the greates Assyria kings during the last century of its history. Sarogn extended the consolidated the conquest of his presumed father, Tiglath-Pileser III. Sargon is the Hebrew rendering (Isaiah (20)6 of the Assyrian Sharon-kin), a throne name meaning (“the king legitimate”).  Like Sargon of Akkad he was probably a usurper who tried to disguise the fact by calling him Sargon, or “True King”.

 

                                                                              
Sargon had many conquests included Babylonia, Armenia, Philistia ,and ancient Israel was wiped out with it defeat. Also Sargon participated in death of  predececssor,  Shalmanneser v. Sarogn II  described the feasts of his engineers during Assyian campaign.  Sargon II  of Assyria captured Sumeria around 721 B.C. and took the people and put them in slavery . He had an inscniption mad . Then Sargon had a war against the Urartu and Zikirtu was successful. Sarogn king subjugated this independent and powerful kingdom. Sargon II scowled the nearby kingdom of Uratu and Zikirtu.714B.C. Zikitu and became the enemies of Sarogn II.

         

        The legacy of Sargon II was an empire at the height of its powers . Sargon build Dur Sharrukin a new capital ,at Khorsabad .The site where Botta  began the rediscovery of ancient Assrians. Wars  Became fever. Primary task is to defend what has aready  been gain .Also to keep the flow of the tribute coming. Also Sargon defeted rebellions within his empire and powerful enemies .

        Sargon died in a bad battle in one of the mountain district in pensia He was a good king people still said today .They buried Sargon in Khorabad soil. In 1928, 1,223 yearls later they found Sargon’s burial site. His coffin weighed 40 tons with a sculpture of a lion.
